Herbal Aloe Soothing Ice Cubes: Cool Relief for Your Face

Are you an herbal skincare enthusiast? If so, let me tell you about the fourth step of my skincare routine – it’s where the magic really happens.

This step is all about applying my very own personalized herbal-infused oil to my skin. After spritzing my face with some refreshing Yarrow Hydrosol (I’ll link to the one I use, if you want it, just let me know), I gently massage 1-2 pumps of my homemade oil onto my still-damp skin. And let me tell you, it’s as if my skin gets a surge of blood flow – it’s glowing afterward!

Now, here’s the thing – in the summertime, my skin can sometimes be a bit finicky. So, I decided to get creative and explore an alternative solution. That’s when I discovered the wonders of herbal-infused Aloe Vera ice cubes!

I carefully selected herbs that catered to my specific skincare needs and infused them into Aloe Vera for a couple of weeks. Once those ice cubes were ready to go, I couldn’t wait to try them out! The cold sensation works wonders to calm any redness and rejuvenate my skin, while the Aloe Vera temporarily opens up my skin barrier, allowing the herbal goodness to sink in even deeper.

And you know what’s great? It feels so light and refreshing on my skin, and it won’t weigh it down even in the sweltering heat of summer. So, it’s still that special time where true transformation happens, just in a slightly cooler way.

This recipe is in two parts, and it’s a bit involved, but hang in there. It’ll be worth it!

Ingredients:

  • dried herbs: calendula, violet, lavender, chickweed

  • aloe vera

  • whole grain alcohol

  • 8 fluid ounces of herbal-infused aloe vera gel

  • 4 fluid ounces of herbal tea (use same herbs as above)

Directions:

To create the herbal-infused aloe vera gel, start by filling a 8 fluid ounce jar halfway with dried herbs (or 3/4 full if using fresh), about 1 ounce. Powder.

Add 1/2 oz whole grain alcohol to the dried herbs. Mix well and seal. Let sit for at least 8 hours or overnight.

When ready, pour aloe vera gel over the herbs until they're covered and the jar is filled up to 2 inches below the top. Cap the jar, shake to combine, and refrigerate for 2 weeks. Once ready, strain out the herbs using a fine mesh strainer, and keep the infused aloe vera gel for the second part of the recipe.

For the herbal tea, place 2 ounces of dried or fresh herbs in a glass jar. Pour 4 ounces of hot water into the jar and steep for a long time, at least 1 hour but overnight is best. Once steeped, strain out the herbs and reserve the liquid.

In a large measuring cup, combine 4 ounces of the strong herbal infusion with 8 ounces of the herbal-infused aloe vera gel. Mix well.

Pour the mixture into an ice cube tray and place it in the freezer. After a few hours, the herbal aloe cubes will be frozen and ready to use.

To use: Remove one herbal ice cube from the tray and glide it over your skin. This herbal combination is fantastic for promoting blood flow to the face, clearing the lymph, and moisturizing the skin—and that's just the herbs! Store the remaining cubes in a small bowl in the freezer for easy access!
