DIY All-Natural Toothpaste Recipe: Easy & Chemical-Free
After the kitchen, the bathroom is typically the second most wasteful area in most homes, contributing a significant portion of our daily household trash. But this also means it's a fantastic place to cut down on unnecessary packaging. By swapping out disposable items for reusable alternatives and choosing products that are sustainably packaged—or even better, making your own—you can make a huge impact.
Think of it as an opportunity to simplify your beauty routine, ditch harmful or toxic chemicals, and take control of what you’re putting in and on your body in a whole new way.
Making my own toothpaste with natural ingredients draws out toxins, reduces cavity and plaque-causing bacteria, and neutralizes the pH in the mouth. It's not too thick or irritating for my gums, and glides across my teeth, leaving them feeling clean and smooth. My family approves, even my little ones, and so does our dentist!
By opting for natural, non-toxic toothpaste alternatives, you can maintain a healthy smile while minimizing exposure to potentially harmful chemicals and reducing your ecological footprint.
INGREDIENTS
3+ tablespoons of bentonite clay
1-2 tablespoons of baking soda
6 tablespoons of melted coconut oil
1/2 teaspoon of a fine sea salt
1 tablespoon of xylitol
6-10 drops of peppermint essential oil, less for children under age 5 1 teaspoon of activated charcoal powder, optional
DIRECTIONS
Measure out all the ingredients using non-metal utensils so you don't deactivate the clay. Mix well. Add more clay to find desired consistency. Add to a jar or to a silicone squeeze tube. Keep the paste covered and stir from time to time to maintain freshness. Lasts for up to 3-4 months.
Always consult with your dentist when making significant changes to your oral care routine to ensure your chosen products meet your dental health needs.
