DIY Herbal Scalp Detox: Baking Soda Rinse with Rosemary and Horsetail
This is another simple clarifying rinse designed to remove excess oil, buildup, and dry flakes from your scalp. Household baking soda (Sodium Bicarbonate) is a natural, cost-effective way to clarify both your scalp and hair, and not only remove grease and residue, but leave your hair softer and shinier.
Infusing the water with herbs adds additional benefits and enhances the clarifying properties of the rinse. Rosemary is known for its stimulating properties and can help promote scalp health, while Horsetail is rich in silica, which can strengthen hair strands.
Together, they complement the clarifying action of the baking soda, providing a holistic approach to scalp and hair care.
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons of baking soda
1/2 cup of warm herb-infused water of rosemary and horestail (To make the infusion: Add 1T rosemary and 1T horsetail in 1 cup of boiled water. Infuse until cool. Strain. Warm up again to better dissolve the baking soda.)
Instructions:
Prepare the rinse: Mix the baking soda and warm infused water.
Application: Pour over hair and massage gently into your scalp and hair.
Wait: Leave on hair for a minute to allow it to absorb the oils and loosen buildup.
Rinse: Thoroughly rinse out of your hair with warm water.
Shampoo: Follow up with a gentle shampoo to clean any remaining residue.
Note: Use this rinse monthly to prevent potential hair damage from the alkaline nature of baking soda. When used correctly, this rinse can effectively restore shine and softness by removing buildup.
It's also an excellent option for swimmers to eliminate chlorine buildup.
