Beyond Basics Mask: Delivering Oil & Water with Nature's Alchemy

You can deliver oil and water to your skin using a variety of natural ingredients beyond just plain oils and water.

In this mask, I use three different forms of water and a herbal infused oil, among other things.

Incorporating such diverse and multifunctional ingredients into your skincare routine ensures that your skin receives both oil and water components, crucial for maintaining a healthy and balanced microbiome.

And the result? A nutrient-dense mask that infuses the skin with hydration and antioxidants, stimulates cell renewal, and refines skin texture without over drying all with just a few ingredients. It's perfect for a pampering session that leaves your skin feeling refreshed and glowing!

*This recipe uses specially prepared ingredients such as my own infused honey, red clover/plantain hydrosol, and infused oil, along with aloe vera gel, to create a truly personalized skincare experience. These elements bring a unique touch to the mask, enhancing its effectiveness and making it uniquely mine. I've linked the specific recipes for those ingredients, so you can personalize your mask just like I did.

Ingredients:

  • Pink Clay Powder: 2 tablespoons – Helps to cleanse the skin and refine pores without drying it out.

  • Honey: 2 teaspoons – Known for its moisturizing and antibacterial properties.

  • Hydrosol: 1.5 teaspoon – Adds soothing and hydrating properties.

  • Hibiscus Powder: 1 teaspoon – Rich in antioxidants and natural acids, promoting a fresher, smoother complexion.

  • Aloe Vera Gel: 1 teapsoon – Soothes and hydrates the skin, great for healing and calming.

  • Infused Oil or Carrier Oil: 1 teaspoon – Provides additional soothing and moisturizing effects.

  • Essential Oils: 6 drops of essential oils of your choice. I used: geranium, carrot seed, and rosemary.

Directions:

  1. Prepare Non-Metal Tools: Ensure all utensils and mixing bowls are made of glass, plastic, or wood to avoid any interaction with the pink clay.

  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a small bowl, mix the pink clay powder and hibiscus powder thoroughly.

  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Add honey, hydrosol, aloe vera gel, and infused oil.

  4. Blend Together: Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring continuously to prevent any clumps from forming. Mix until you achieve a smooth, creamy consistency. If the mixture is too thick, add a little more hydrosol or aloe vera gel. If it's too runny, add a bit more clay.

  5. Apply: Once your mask has reached the desired consistency, apply it to clean, dry skin. Leave it on for about 10-15 minutes or until it starts to dry but is not fully dry on your skin, as this can cause dehydration.

  6. Rinse Off: Use warm water and a soft cloth to gently rinse off the mask. Follow up with your favorite salve or serum to lock in hydration.

Tips:

  • Patch Test: Always do a patch test with a new mask mixture to ensure you don’t have any reactions to the ingredients.

  • Preservation: Since this mask contains fresh ingredients and no preservatives, it’s best to make it fresh each time you plan to use it. Store any leftover mask in the refrigerator and use it within a week or two, checking for freshness and signs of mold.
