Package Free Tortillas
Taco night is a beloved tradition in many households, but as a zero waster with eco-anxiety, the thought of buying multiple bags of tortillas can be overwhelming. But, fear not! With a bit of time, effort, and a few simple ingredients, you can easily make your own homemade tortillas that will not only be delicious but also minimize food packaging waste.
This recipe is a simple, easy-to-follow guide for making your own flour tortillas from scratch. It can be easily customized to suit your taste and dietary preferences. For example, if you prefer corn tortillas, simply replace the flour with cornmeal. And if you want to make it gluten-free, you can use gluten-free flour.
Ingredients:
2c flour (bought in bulk)
1/2tsp salt (bought in bulk)
3/4c filtered water
3tbsp olive oil (bought in a 3L tin)
Directions:
In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Stir in water and oil. Turn onto a floured surface; knead 10 times, adding a little flour or water if needed to achieve a smooth dough. Let rest for 10 minutes.
Divide dough into equal size portions. Roll each portion into a 6 inch circle.
In a greased cast-iron or other, cook tortillas over medium heat until lightly browned, about 1 minute on each side. Serve warm. Enjoy!
