Homemade Natural Dryer Sheets: Fresh, Seasonal Aromas for Your Laundry
I have five wool dryer balls in my dryer at all times, but I find that they don't eliminate static or soften my clothes enough especially in the winter months. When my clothes come out of the dryer, I want them to feel soft and comfortable to wear. So, I add this all-natural alternative to my laundry routine that costs next to nothing to make, leaves no lasting toxic residue or synthetic lingering scent, and takes care of static and adds softness.
I also get to include my favorite scents, especially seasonal one which bring these dryer sheets to a whole new level. And, unlike the store-bought dryer sheets, I reuse my homemade ones again and again until they quit, if they ever do!
Note: Use any old, unwanted, cotton fabric for this recipe like tee shirts, sheets, rags, etc. You’ll need about 20 5x8 rectangles.
Ingredients
100% medium weight cotton fabric
1-1/4 cup of white vinegar
1-1/4 cup of water
1-1/2 tablespoons of vegetable glycerin (Incorporating vegetable glycerin into your homemade dryer sheet recipe enhances the product's effectiveness by softening fabrics, reducing static, and ensuring even fragrance distribution.)
25 drops of essential oils
Directions
Pour water, vinegar, and vegetable glycerin in a glass jar. Mix to combine. Add essential oil and swirl to combine.
Cut your old cotton fabric into squares about 6×6" shapes, fold into thirds, and insert lengthwise into jar; seal with lid.
Fabric will begin to soak up the liquid. Once all the liquid is absorbed, the sheets are ready to use. Use 1-2 sheets per dryer load, 2-3 for extra large ones. When the cloths are dry from the dryer, you can stick them back into the jar and use them again. When liquid in the jar is empty, repeat all steps reusing the same sheets.
Tip: You want a moist cloth, not a saturated one. If they are too wet, ring out over the jar.
