Herbal Aloe Vera Sun-drenched Skin Gel: Natural Healing for Sun-Kissed Skin
Aloe vera, calendula, and chamomile are three plants traditionally used for their soothing, inflammation-modulating, and healing properties, making them excellent remedies for sun-drenched skin.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup aloe vera gel (preferably fresh, but store-bought pure gel is also fine)
2 tablespoons calendula + chamomile oil (For instruction on how to make an herbal oil, find the instructions here; for recommendations on which carrier oil to choose, find my favs here.)
10 drops chamomile essential oil (optional, for added soothing and anti-inflammatory effects)
5 drops peppermint essential oil (optional, for a cooling sensation)
Instructions:
Prepare the Aloe Vera Gel:
If using fresh aloe vera, cut a leaf from the plant, slice it open, and scoop out the gel. Blend the gel to get a smooth consistency.
Combine Ingredients:
In a clean bowl, mix the aloe vera gel with the calendula oil until well combined.
Add the lavender and peppermint essential oils if desired, and stir thoroughly.
Store:
Transfer the mixture into a sterilized jar or container with a lid.
Store the gel in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. The cool temperature will also enhance the soothing effect when applied to sunburned skin.
Usage:
Apply:
Gently apply a thin layer of the gel to the sunburned areas of your skin.
Reapply as needed, especially after bathing or showering, to keep the skin hydrated and promote healing.
Benefits:
Aloe Vera: Known for its cooling, moisturizing, and anti-inflammatory properties, aloe vera helps soothe sunburn and promote skin healing.
Calendula + Chamomile Oil: Offers anti-inflammatory and healing benefits, reducing redness and aiding in the repair of damaged skin.
Lavender Essential Oil: Adds soothing and calming effects, helping to reduce pain and inflammation.
Peppermint Essential Oil: Provides a cooling sensation that can offer immediate relief from the heat and discomfort of sunburn.
This traditional remedy leverages the natural healing properties of aloe vera, calendula, and chamomile to provide effective relief from sunburn, promoting faster recovery and comfort.
